Yamileth Mercado Facts

  1. Yamileth’s first 13 bouts were all against fellow Mexican boxers and she had amassed a spectacular 12-1 win-loss record in those fights. Her only defeat in those fights had come against Jessica Munoz. In the next 8 bouts she had fought in her career, as of September 2021, she had faced Mexican boxers thrice more and had won all those bouts, giving her an incredible 15-1 record against boxers from her own country.
  2. As of September 2021, in 21 fights, she had faced an opponent more than once only twice. On the first of those instances, she had defeated Diana Gutierrez via a 3rd-round TKO in March 2016 and then again via a 6th-round unanimous decision in August 2016, the 6th and 7th bouts of her career.
  3. In the 2nd of those instances, she had lost to Fatuma Zarika via a split decision in the 10th round of their September 2018 fight for the WBC Female Super Bantamweight title. This was just the 2nd loss of her professional career and the first time in her career that a bout involving her had been settled via a split decision. Yamileth had taken her revenge in November 2019 when she had defeated Fatuma to win the WBC Female Super Bantamweight title via unanimous decision in the 10th round.
  4. The first 2 defeats of her professional boxing career had come in her 8th and 14th professional bouts. As a weird coincidence, those bouts were the first 2 times that she had competed for a major title.
